Internal and external DVD writers arrive

Hewlett-Packard has released two new DVD writers for the storage and consumer markets. They claim it is the fastest DVD writer on the market and can write a complete DVD in under 15 minutes.

The new Hewlett-Packard (HP) DVD 300i and 300e have write speeds of 4X; the 300i is an internal writer for PCs and the 3000e external. Both use the +R/RW format, which will offer end users greater capability with DVD-ROM.

DVD+R/+RW discs provide up to 4.7Bg of storage space, and HP will supply these devices complete with IEEE1394 (FireWire) and USB 2.0 connection. Also included is backup software from Veritas, including RecordNow, DLA and SimpleBackup, the disaster recovery application.

Consumers and small businesses will be the main users of these devices, as they provide an affordable storage and archiving solution that connects directly to the PC. Both are available to the Australian market now, the 300i costs $649 including GST and the 300e $799 including GST.
