Turn DAS to SAN

Turn DAS to SAN

As businesses consider moving from a direct attached storage solution to a storage area network the need for systems that aid this process are needed. Hewlett-Packard has released a new version of its Modular SAN Array (MSA) 1000, in response to this market demand.

This is the second year that the MSA1000 has been available and Hewlett-Packard (HP) has added some improvements, including multi cluster server support, doubling the capacity to six terabytes (Tb) and they claim the performance has been improved by 80 per cent.

"The MSA1000 is a modular, entry level Fibre Channel storage array that enables companies to easily move from direct attached storage (DAS) to a storage area network (SAN) as the foundation of a company's adaptive infrastructure, increasing a business' ability to quickly and efficiently respond to change," said Andrew Manners, director, network storage solutions, HP Australia.

Other additions to the MSA1000 include a new three port embedded hub option, which HP claims offers a cost and space saving for a company considering moving over from direct attached storage (DAS) to a SAN system.

HP also claims that the MSA1000 is the only array on the market today that promises to protect disk investment, while enabling DAS and SAN capabilities, which will make moving over to SAN more cost effective for businesses.
