EMC packs out NAS range

EMC Corporation bolstered its presence in the network attached storage market this week with the announcement of a number of additions to its network attached storage (NAS) range, with the new NS600 network server topping the announcement.

The NS600 is part of the Celerra range of enterprise NAS solutions and "fills out" the range, EMC said in a statement. The mid -sized system "marries the functionality" of their NAS operating system, Data Access In Real Time (DART), to the CLARiiON storage architecture.

Two different operating modes are available to network administrators, who will be aboe to choose from a high availability mode or a maximum performance mode. EMC claim that the maximum performance mode "more than doubled the I/Os per second on comparable NAS solutions". The NS600 can be quickly converted from one mode to the other as business requirements change, EMC claims.

"The Celerra NS600 offers an alternative to the traditional approach requiring customers to cluster multiple NAS appliances together," said Steve Redman, the managing director of the EMC branch office in Australia.

EMC also announced a new Celerra Web Manager application for managing basic NAS management functions, and a new Celerra Native Manager application. The latter is a Windows application that EMC claims provides end users with an "easy to use" management interface for performing NAS functions.

These latest products are able to be integrated with the EMC ControlCentre storage management application.

The NS600 is available immediately to the Australian market for US$167,000 for a one terabyte configuration.
