Standards put storage to the test

A new benchmarking test is now available to businesses looking to test their storage networks and the claims of vendors. SPC-1 was launched this week by the Storage Performance Council (SPC).

The SPC said this is the first vendor neutral system for comparing and configuring direct and network attached storage systems. The test comes as a multi-platform tool kit. In a statement the SPC said it aims to; establish a level playing field; provide value for IT users, engineers and systems integrators; and to provide an official result of tests in an easy to use manner.

Authenticity will be added to the results by the SPC only providing a benchmark result when a validation and audit with a peer review has been completed.

The SPC toolkit is available fro AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows 2000 systems and can be purchased at the storageperformance.org Web Site.
