Novell backup made bright

BrightStor ARCserve Backup from Computer Associates now supports NetWare from Novell. V9 for Netware went on to the market this week and is priced to be competitive.

Computer Associates (CA) has been pushing ARCserve Backup solution hard and the latest announcement adds to the Windows support announced earlier in the year. NetWare 6 environments and its Open File Agent technology are supported by the latest version of BrightStor, which is already shipping. 'Copy and Write functionality will be provided to end users so that data is backed up as an application is in use.

Beta testing for BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9 has been completed; and the application has received YES testing and approval from Novell.

Doug Knight, the vice president of networking infrastructure at Novell said of the announcement. "Together NetWare 6 and ARCserve 9 give customers a compelling solution for consolidating their data into heterogeneous storage area network (SAN) environments."

Available to the Australian market immediately, CA has aggressively priced V9 for Novell at $1220.

End users can now back up data from a NetWare, Microsoft Windowns, Linux and UNIX server to a Novell Netware server.
