SuperLoader tries superceding old tape drives

Quantum has claimed its new SDLT tape drive offers 45 per cent more capacity at the same prices as older models.

The SuperLoader with SDLT 320 drive is a rackmountable device with a height of two rack units. The drive scaled up to 5.12TB when the included 2:1 compression feature is turned on, with transfer rates to the drive purported to reach 115GB per hour.

The 45 per cent improvement in capacity is calculated in reference to Quantum's 220 model drives, which use the same Super DLTtape I media as the 320. The company said those users who wished to upgrade from the 200 to the 320 would not require a service call from a hardware specialist.

The SuperLoader is available now from Quantum resellers with a suggested price of $22,200.
