Next week sees the annual Storage World exhibition at Sydney's Convention and Exhibition centre in Darling Harbour. The Terrapinn organised event is backed by all the big players in the storage sector, including Computer Associates, IBM, Legato, Hewlett-Packard and Veritas. Over the two days attendees will be able to see the latest solutions to storage issues. StorageNews Weekly takes an early peek at what will be on show to give you a sneak preview.

Lan 1 will be exhibiting a range of storage technologies, including network attached storage (NAS), Tape, DVD-R jukeboxes, e-mail archiving solutions, and external RAID and also storage area network (SAN) building blocks.

Lan 1 will be demonstrating data repositories using NAS and Tape combination, a DVD-R jukebox emulating a Magneto-Optical solution and storage management that allows jukebox and libraries to appear as disk drives.

"NAS is one of the most cost effective and versatile storage solutions in the market today. We can show you ways that NAS can be deployed to meet your requirements," said a spokesperson from Lan 1. "If you're looking for high availability for your mission critical applications, then see Adaptec's external storage arrays for SAN and Clustering Solutions. Capacities range from 200GB to 5TB. "

Overland Storage robotic tape libraries will be on demonstration from Digital Tape Solutions, which is the exclusive Australian distributor for the devices. The Overland storage resource management software will also be on display. All Overland systems comply to the ISO9001 standard.

This will be the first event XSI Data Solutions since XSI Technology merged with e-DataGroup in May. As Australia's largest home grown provider of storage technology the company will she showcasing its storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) solutions.

Also on show will be Open Systems Data Management from Dawn Technologies, a division of XSI. Dawn is the Australian distributor for ADIC storage applications.

Computer Associates will be show casing the new BrightStor ARCserve v9, which was recently announced to the Australian market. Computer Associates (CA) will be offering 30 day free trials of the application. CA said interest in the new application has been extremely high and the local branch office is awaiting new stocks to arrive.

Brocade Communications Systems will be pitching SAN storage at the small and medium sized business with the new SilkWorm 3900 Fabric Switch. Delivering 2Gbit per seconds on 32 ports the SilkWorm uses the third generation of ASIC technology from Brocade. It is based on the existing SilkWorm family and Brocade claims this device simplifies the installation of a storage area network for small and medium sized businesses.

Hitachi Data Systems has teamed up with Veritas for the event and will be putting on a number of demonstrations. Hitachi said its aim for the show was to demonstrate collaboration and the interoperability of best of breed storage solutions. Presentations from the two partners will cover; NAS and SAN convergence; NT Data Replication; Solutions Services and a technical demonstration of a real-time SAN.
