February 15, 2008: Sun Microsystems has announced the addition of 14 new applications in the Network.com Application Catalogue, along with a new partner program.

The Network.com Application Catalogue is an assortment of grid-enabled online applications available on the Sun Grid. The upgrade is aiming to assist Independent Software Vendors (ISV’s) in their ability to bring applications to the market as fast as possible. The new additions to the catalogue include an open source application blender, an integrated suite of tools for modeling, rendering, animation and creation of 3D content.

According to Mark Herring, senior director at Sun, “Network.com is evolving into a virtual on-demand data center that allows businesses of any size to leverage computer infrastructure without the cost of ownership and with the flexibility of scaling up or down compute resources in real time as business demands change."

Other open source applications are being added to the catalogue include a life sciences application called Zeus, a computational mathematics application and a computer aided engineering application.
