Positive outlook for IT jobs

Two surveys give the Australian IT jobs sector a bright outlook, with reports of an increase in IT job advertisements and recruitment in the next quarter.

A national report from IT Skills Hub has found that that the number of IT job advertisements has stabilised for the first time in two years. IT Skills Hub claims "the sector downturn may have bottomed and that brighter times may be ahead". The banking and finance is the top recruiting industry and New South Wales the leading state the report found.

TMP Worldwide has now collated the IT statistics from its TMP Worldwide Job Index survey and has announced today that there is strong national "optimism", especially in Queensland. TMP has found that only seven per cent of IT employers plan to reduce the number of IT staff on the pay-role and the majority expect to retain the current staff levels. Up to 27 per cent of companies surveyed expect to increase their IT staff levels.

Skills currently under demand include; Web services, XML, security, storage, .NET, J2EE and Oracle 9i database skills. IT Skills Hub also noticed increasing demand for red Hat Linux skills.
