Nishan adds partner for IP SAN

Californian start-up Nishan Systems has jumped through the hoops of another vendor - this time, in the form of LSI Logic - to prove that IP-based storage area networks can work in practice.

LSI said that Nishan's IPS 3300 and IPS 4300 IP storage switches had been certified to interoperate with its SAN hardware. Only last week, LSI was one of two manufacturers of host bus adapters to debut a product compatible with the iSCSI protocol (see story) - which Nishan's switches also support. The certification means that users of LSI's hardware, or users of hardware that has LSI components built into it, such as their host bus adapters, can be assured of interoperability.

The IPS 330 and 4300 switches support Fibre Channel, iSCSI, iFCP, Fibre Channel over IP, iSNS, and all types of network attached storage interfaces, according to the company.

Nishan had previously completed certification procedures with McData, XIOtech, BakBone Software, Foundry Networks and Legato Systems.
