Veritas offers protection for Windows 2000

Veritas has released a new version of its Backup Exec designed to support Windows 2000 and NT.

It offers data protection for the Windows 2000 operating system including the system state and the new Windows 2000 file system changes that include disk quotas, encrypted files and Distributed File System.

In addition, the new release also incorporates updated disaster recovery, clustering, Removable Storage Management integration and new fault tolerant capabilities.

Another new option, Backup Exec Network Storage Executive, allows for centralised management of multiple Backup Exec for Windows NT/2000 servers.

SAN UPDATE

The company's new Cluster Server enables e-business application services over a storage area network (SAN). Cluster Server is a new architecture-independent management solution designed to administer service groups.

In addition, Volume Manager 3.0 now maximises application uptime for SAN-based storage configurations. The online disk management product now allows all storage management functions to be performed online without interrupting applications.

In related news, Veritas has opened its Australasian 'follow-the-sun' support centre. The centre will provide both a same time zone Australia/Asia support service as well as out of time zone support for regions such as Europe and the US, complementing support centres in those countries.

It is estimated that the centre, located in Veritas' new office complex in North Sydney, will employ over 50 people.
