CD server solution for ethernet environments

Hewlett-Packard has announced the HP SureStore CD-ROM Server/Tower 7 and 7Plus, which allow multiple users to share libraries of CD-ROM content across the network.

Based on "thin-server" technology, the CD-ROM Servers operate independently of the file server. This technology simplifies installation and management for network administrators, and ensures that users have easy access to their data, even when the file server is down.

With a standard file manager or Web-browser, users can access CD-ROM- or DVD-ROM-based information across the network; administrators can then limit access to data whenever licensing requirements demand it.

The SureStore Server can be configured using a Web-browser interface, and supports multiple protocols and serves clients using most major network operating systems. Information is protected by configuring passwords at three separate levels: the tower, the server and the network.

The SureStore Servers, drives and tower can be purchased as an integrated solution or as separate units. With built-in support for CD-changers, the Server/Tower 7Plus can provide access for up to 70 CDs, and both servers provide support for SCSI-2 CD-ROMs, CD-changers and DVD-ROMs.

The SureStore 7 retails for US$5399 and the 7Plus for US$5899. For more information call 131 347.
