New online UPS system

Exide Electronics Australia has introduced a three-phase double conversion on-line uninterruptable power supply (UPS), the Powerware Prime. The UPS ranges from 7.5 to 15kVA and is designed for centralised power protection of server farms, telecommunications and industrial applications. The UPS features AB functionality, which prolongs battery life up to 50 per cent.

With computers becoming more centrally located, protecting becomes easier and more economical with larger capacity UPS' like the Powerware Prime. A typical computer room has a large number of different types of servers and communications devices such as bridges, hubs and routers. When computers and devices are located near each other it is possible to protect the whole entity by a single UPS.

Exide Electronics has designed a solution for the centralised protection. It includes with the Powerware Prime UPS a new version of the LaneSafe III software for sequential shutdown of the network, the optional PowerVision software for monitoring the UPS' and the Powercare Sentinel on-line remote service. According to the manufacturer, this makes the protection more economical and tales into consideration future expansion.
