Open-E Offers Free Storage Management Software

January 9, 2008: To bring in the new year, storage management software provider Open-E has announced that for a limited time it will be offering its DSS Lite IP storage management software as a free download.

Open-E is pitching Data Storage Server (DSS) Lite IP-Storage as an all-in-one, fourth generation OS software for centralised IP-storage management. It claims the software combines full network attached storage (NAS) and iSCSI functionality with outstanding price-to-performance, enhanced manageability, and increased productivity for applications ranging from file sharing, storage consolidation, backup and recovery, virtualisation to replication.

“To help enable new users to recognise the power in our software, we are very excited to be able to offer our DSS Lite storage management software free of charge for a limited time to IT professionals and organisations around the world,” said Krzysztof Franek, President and CEO of Open-E.

“We are confident that organisations of all sizes will discover how easily its flexible design will allow them to quickly install and create effective NAS and/or IP-SAN/iSCSI solutions that can adapt to and solve their simplest to the most complex storage needs, significantly increasing their workflow efficiency and ROI.”

The operating system is available for Windows and Linux will be available for free downloaded and activation from January 7 to January 31, 2008 from www.open-e.com.

The activated DSS Lite version will be fully functional indefinitely and will be able to manage up to 2 TB of storage. The catch? It comes with limited technical support.
