IBM Acquires Arsenal Digital

By Greg McNevin

December 10, 2007: In another move to boost its information protection solutions, IBM has announced that it has acquired the privately held Arsenal Digital and its suite of on-demand information protection services.

Arsenal boasts a comprehensive suite of scalable, on-demand services architecture which provides automated infrastructure management to all market segments.

IBM says that both it and Arsenal are targeting small and mid-market businesses, as well as large enterprises that need to achieve data resiliency in light of increasing regulatory requirements, explosive data growth, and evolving technology requirements.

Arsenal will become part of the Business Continuity and Resiliency Services (BCRS) business unit in IBM Global Technology Services, and by doing so will enable IBM to provide its clients with “security-rich” information protection services designed to handle increasing data retention requirements, complementing IBM’s Tivoli’s flagship data protection offerings and its System Storage solutions.

Philippe Jarre, vice president, IBM Global Business Continuity and Resiliency Services, claims that its acquisition of Arsenal gives the company a significant leg up when it comes to the increasingly crucial realm of data protection, and the most comprehensive range of information protection services on the market.

“Information protection is not optional for businesses today. Continuity of data, applications, and infrastructure means survival in a world that operates around the clock, regardless of a company’s size or industry,” says Jarre.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008.
