EMC Invigorates SAN Virtualisation with Invista

December 11, 2007: EMC have released a new version of Invista, which includes interoperability with their subsidiary VMware’s Infrastructure.

Storage Area Networks (SAN’s) contain such a large amount of raw computing power that it’s no surprise that they are often ideal candidates for virtualisation. EMC’s latest update to its Invista line has boosted exactly that by attempting to simplify SAN virtualisation.

Invista is an enterprise level SAN virtualisation solution that aims to deliver non-disruptive operations. The solution runs on EMC application software combined with Brocade and Cisco hardware. The offering has been extensively tested with the latest version of VMware’s ESX software to ensure streamline cohesion.

“VMware and EMC are committed to helping customers maximize their investments and simplify the management of their virtual infrastructures. EMC Invista integration with VMware Infrastructure helps to deliver the benefits of ‘flat IT,’ where a customer’s significant changes can be coherently managed and handled online without disruption to servers, networks or storage.” said Bryan Byun, VMware Vice President of Global Partners and Solutions.

Invista 2.1 is expected to be available by the end of the month, with VMware ESX Server 3.0.2 support on track to be released at the same time.
