Recover the desktop

Recover the desktop

Storage management software provider Storactive Australia has released Storactive LiveBackup 1.0, a client/server backup and recover software solution for Windows 95, 98 and NT notebooks and desktops.

The product is targeted at networked business, corporate, government and education markets, and provides real time client-driven backup and protection for mobile, remote and desktop users.

LiveBackup allows self-serve recovery of previous versions of files in case of data loss, hard drive failure or system failure, centralised control and administration of client file backup, and the quick recreation of systems when a PC is lost or stolen.

The product also operates both while notebooks and desktops are connected, and to a server when they are disconnected. It permits client-initiated backup to accommodate the less predictable server connections of laptops and workstations.

LiveBackup works by identifying the blocks of data within a file that have changed, records them in a cache on the local hard disk, and transmits them to a centralised storage server at the next opportunity. The product caches off-line file changes on a notebook in real time, and then transfers them when the notebook is next connected to the server.

LiveBackup is distributed in Australia by Janteknology, and prices start at $199 per client and $8000 per server.
