Michael Lappen is the new managing director at maxi multimedia, the joint venture between NEC Australia and Aspect Computing. Mr Lappen will take maxi's Web and e-commerce consulting business past its core constituency of public sector organisations and agencies and out into large corporate customers.

The Santa Cruz Operation, better known as SCO, has elevated Brad Scott from general manager of the Pacific region to become US director of sales for Tarantella. Mr Scott will move to California to take responsibility for all sales of the Tarantella host access and corporate portal product within the US.

Empower, an Adelaide-based software developer, has lured Dean Littlefield to become its new CEO.

Empower is moving from being a provider of human resources management software into new e-business areas.

Mr Littlefield was formerly at telecommunications carrier AAPT.

Solace, a software supplier for the banking and finance industry, has chosen Kim Goodall to join its board of directors. Mr Goodall was previously vice chairman and director of marketing at Temenos Systems, a company which he co-founded. Solace is the exclusive distributor for Australia and New Zealand for Temenos' Globus banking solution.

Quantum has appointed Kevyn Ho as South Asia Pacific sales director, covering Australia/New Zealand, ASEAN and the Indian sub-continent. Mr Ho will be responsible for growing revenues from Quantum's hard disk drive group, and its DLTtape and storage systems group.

Pegasystems has appointed Nigel Lippett as its new senior project manager. Mr Lippett will manage all aspects of project planning, implementation and delivery for Pegasystems' customer relationship management software in the Pacific Rim.

Mr Lippett was formerly at Aspect Computing, where he managed financial outsourcing projects. Recent Pegasystem customers include the National Australia Bank.

Hitachi Data Systems has lured Graeme Gleave away from FileNET to become its new channels director for Australia and New Zealand. Mr Gleave will help HDS in its shift in focus towards indirect channel distribution.

Sybase Australia has appointed Andrew Findlay as the new southern region sales manager. Mr Findlay, who was transferred from the business intelligence division of Sybase New Zealand, will now be responsible for the sales team for Victoria, WA, SA and Tasmania.

NetIQ, a provider of e-business infrastructure management software, has appointed Mark Lazarus as Melbourne based manager of its southern region.
