LaCie Adds Online Backup

LaCie Adds Online Backup

October 30, 2008: Storage device specialist LaCie has announced a new online backup package, offering one year of unlimited online backup with the purchase of one of its external storage devices.

The firm has partnered with online backup technology developer Carbonite to offer the new service, with Carbonite automatically backing up LaCie drives.

Carbonie automatically finds new and modified files, encrypts them twice before leaving the original workstation, then transmits them by HTTPS (SSL) to a secure data centre, where the information remains encrypted, protecting privacy.

Backups are also completed when the computer is idle to reduce performance hits.

“Taking into account the quality of information users place on our drives we wanted to go beyond our expertise in hardware to provide the best options to our customers,” said Philippe Spruch, LaCie Chief Executive Officer. “LaCie Online Backup provides one year of unlimited online storage to showcase the importance of backup strategies that keep data safe, and our dedication to helping users get there.”

The promotion is available for drives sold after October 15.
