Windows 7 Pre-Beta Hits Bittorrent
November 4, 2008: After being shown off to developers and key media last week, the pre-beta of Microsoft’s much anticipated Windows 7 has, inevitably, been leaked onto the bittorrent networks, enabling anyone to sneak a peek at Vista’s successor.
Both the 32 and 64-bit versions are available, and from early reports it appears that Windows 7 is already trumping Vista in some important areas.
For one the footprint for the new OS is currently significantly lower than Vista’s, however, more interesting for enterprises is improvements to application deployment and security, data security and network management.
The inclusion of Virtualisation support – promised for Vista at one point – is also being talked up for Windows 7.
For now, this version of the OS is merely a taste of what’s to come, however, from all outward appearances Microsoft could be onto a good thing this time around.
