pureSilicon SSD Tops 1TB

January 13, 2009: Illustrating the great strides solid state disk (SSD) technology is currently making, pureSilicon has debut the world’s first 1TB SSD, considerably closing the gap between traditional magnetic storage and flash technology.

The company says its new Nitro series is the most compact, high-density SSD available, with 1TB squeezed into a 2.5-Inch form factor, or 4TB in the same space as a 3.5” HDD.

The Nitro is the first SSD to crack 1TB, and is the most compact SSD per gigabyte due to its ability to cram 15.40GB into a cubic centimeter - at least three times greater than any other SSD on the market.

pureSilicon says that the Nitro offers the high-performance and low energy consumption typical of the technology, making it perfect for server, networking, datacentre, supercomputing, and professional media applications.

The Nitro features transfer rates approaching the maximum for SATA II with 300MB/sec, and can hold sustained read and write speeds of 240MB/sec and 215MB/sec respectively with a mean time to failure of 2.0 million hours.

It is available in capacities of 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 and 1024GB and will be available in early 2009.
