No Early Release for Windows 7

No Early Release for Windows 7

By Greg McNevin

January 28, 2008: Following last week’s talk of Windows Vista’s successor, currently known as Windows 7, hitting the streets as early as mid 2009 a Microsoft spokesman has come out to squash any rumours, claiming that the new OS will be shipping sometime in 2010.

According to the spokesman, Microsoft is currently in the planning stages for Windows 7, and expects a development time of around three years dated from Vista’s release.

“The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release," said the spokesman according to crn.com

While debunking the Windows 7 release rumour, the spokesman also announced that Windows Vista SP1 is on track for release in Q1 this year with the final release date to be based on quality. “[W]e will continue to track customer and partner feedback from the beta program before setting a final date,” said the spokesman.

With an early release for Windows 7 now quashed and Vista SP1 on the horizon, Microsoft could soon witness a surge in interest in the much-criticised OS. However, as SP3 for Windows XP is also on the list for release this year some firms may still stick with the devil they know for some time to come.
