Netcat Picked for Knowledge Management

By Greg McNevin

January 23, 2009: Netcat has been selected by NSW Local Government Authority the Mid-Western Regional Council to provide Web Content Management (WCM) software, consulting services and otherwise facilitate a Knowledge Management strategy.

The Council has defined knowledge management as “…the discipline that helps spread knowledge of individuals or groups across organisations in ways that directly affect performance. Knowledge Management envisions getting the Right Information within the Right Context to the Right Person at the Right Time for the Right Business Purpose.”

With this in mind, Netcat’s services have been selected in order to capture, classify, manage, and distribute the vast amount of information available within the Council, including that residing in the experience of staff members.

Netcat says that the project will involve implementation of a new Intranet to address the internal information needs of Council, as well as redeveloping the public website mudgee.nsw.gov.au in order to address constituent needs and improve process efficiency and service delivery.

Netcat has provided WCM solutions to Councils over the last five years, including Brisbane City Council, Adelaide City Council, Hobart City Council, Manningham City Council, and Snowy River Shire Council, and more. The company says that it sees Local Government Authorities as being innovative in their use of the web as a promotional tool and to provide interactive services for their constituents, especially those people who cannot attend Council premises personally.
