Exterro Upgrades Fusion Compliance Platform

February 4, 2009: Legal industry software developer Exterro has announced what it has dubbed the first automated data mapping solution, extending its legal governance, risk management and compliance platform with the ability to analyse and manage the lifecycle of data sources and information across an enterprise.

Called Fusion Genome, the company claims the software is the first dynamic data mapping solution that allows corporate legal and IT teams to identify, manage and analyze the lifecycle of data sources and information comprehensively across an enterprise, and keep that information evergreen.

Built on top of Exterro’s Fusion workflow platform, Genome gives companies automated, matter-specific data maps to help them understand their rapidly evolving information universe and otherwise give them an end-to-end risk assessment and management solution.

“Our Fortune 500 clients’ biggest pain points lie in keeping their data maps current. They often rely on error-prone tribal knowledge to manage a great number of data sources and systems, resulting in difficulty when implementing regulatory and compliance policies,” said Bobby Balachandran, CEO of Exterro.

The company says that complex and far-reaching regulations, such as the US’s Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), have left corporate legal teams and IT departments exposed to increased scrutiny.

It says that the failure to understand and manage an enterprise’s data landscape puts it at high risk for incurring significant expenses when responding to regulatory or eDiscovery requests, and these ad-hoc and manual management systems largely in place today are inadequate to meet the increasing demands and responsibility for information.

Exterro claims that Genome delivers a company-wide, dynamic data map capable of evolving with an enterprise’s information inventory, and integrates seamlessly, through the Fusion platform, to their legal hold and e-discovery tools.

“Even consulting companies have expressed a need for an evergreen information management tool. Exterro has worked extensively with its client base to develop Fusion Genome,” said Balachandran. “One large client anticipates a three-year ROI of over 500%.”
