LeftHand Releases SAS Starter SAN

February 16, 2009: HP’s LeftHand Networks has launched a new entry-level SAN that it says improves performance and reduces storage costs within midsized virtualised server environments.

LeftHand says its SAS Starter SAN helps customers efficiently deploy their first virtualisation project by simplifying the process of creating, accessing and managing shared storage resources.

The company adds that customers can frequently encounter unforeseen system performance bottlenecks, as well as discover that server virtualisation increases the number of required connections to a SAN during deployment, both of which complicate matters greatly.

It is introducing the SAS Starter SAN to help smaller businesses circumvent these issues, while reducing costs by automatically balancing data volumes across all disk drives, network connections and processors.

LeftHand says that the SAS Starter SAN includes management tools that provide replication, thin provisioning and snapshot capabilities, and scalability to provide more than 80 network ports and 320 disk drives.

“Customers are looking for cost-effective storage solutions that help them realize the promised efficiencies of virtualised server environments,” said Bill Chambers, vice president, LeftHand Networks, an HP company. “The entry-level SAS Starter SAN gives customers an affordable, high-performing option that allows them to start small and add capacity as their needs grow.”
