Savvis Adds Cloud Services

Savvis Adds Cloud Services

February 17, 2009: Managed IT infrastructure and virtualised utility service provider Savvis has unveiled a new virtual data centre hosting and private cloud computing solution, saying it can help enterprises cut costs without sacrificing security or performance.

Dubbed Cloud Compute, Savvis says that the service and the portal coupled with it feature enhanced user control and flexibility in provisioning virtual computing and storage capabilities on top of both private and shared platforms.

It claims that this enables “right-sized computing”, as companies can purchase resources on demand and by the instance on month-to-month terms.

The company adds that enterprises that experience substantial fluctuations in web traffic and computing requirements will benefit most, as will those who are looking to take advantage of SaaS applications, seasonal web eCommerce traffic, and financial trading applications.

In addition, Savvis Cloud Compute assists in the implementation of disaster recovery for back-office locations, and shifting test and development environments to lower cost footprints.

The company says that the service is the first in a series of new, integrated cloud IT solutions, with more to come this year.
