Isilon puts the squeeze on NAS dedupe

March 12, 2009: An integrated nearline archive solution combining Isilon's new 36NL and Ocarina's ECOsystem storage optimisation software promises to delivers up to 10-to-1 data reduction and average storage utilisation rates of up to 90 percent.

The Ocarina ECOsystem provides content-aware compression and deduplication for the entire Isilon product line, but is specially optimised for the new 36NL. In combination with the 36NL, which scales up to 3.45 petabytes (PB) in a single file system, Ocarina ECOsystem promises a 20 percent improvement in system efficiency and up to 10-to-1 data reduction over traditional NAS systems utilising conventional deduplication techniques.
