April 1, 2009:CommVault is now offering enhancements to its support for Microsoft data and applications with its new Simpana 8 software, from Windows Server 2008 to Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and Active Directory.
New heterogeneous Records Management capabilities are offered with the Records Center site, a key component of Office SharePoint Server 2007.
Simpana 8 software’s Content Director feature embeds the Microsoft FAST Indexing Engine to granularly manage data based on content in Exchange Server 2007, Office SharePoint Server 2007, and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.
With global embedded software deduplication, Simpana 8 software offers a holistic approach to data deduplication that spans both disk and tape tiers of storage. CommVault extends this feature for Microsoft users by enabling a simple 64-bit Windows Server 2008, with commodity disk, to be a deduplication target at a much more attractive price than a comparable dedicated appliance.
CommVault software can now provide backup, recovery, indexing and search capabilities for Office Communications Server 2007.
Simpana 8 software provides additional management capabilities for Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 and Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V technology environments including the ability to restore data backed up from VMware directly to Hyper-V.
Enhanced data mining capabilities for Exchange Server 2007 and Office SharePoint Server 2007 leverage the snapshot infrastructure of Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service.
