New Dell Poweredge Servers Combine the New With the Old

November 13, 2007: Dell has unveiled its latest enterprise server offering, the PowerEdge R900 which it showcased at Oracle’s OpenWorld.

Expected to be available by the end of the month, the four-socket servers are being pitched as ideal for virtualization with enhanced memory and the latest Intel Xeon quad-cores on board.

The R900 has the highest scores of any 4-socket server in the industry, as measured by the SPECjbb2005 standard. The R900 will also allow customers to use in-line firmware, which means you don’t have to take your hard drives offline to flash the firmware in as it can be delivered directly.

There are also power efficiency and monitoring improvements to strengthen the green credentials of the new hardware as well as 10 gigabit Ethernet support.
