Canon secures print management

August 24, 2009:Canon Australia has launched a new low cost secure print software product, uniFLOW SSP, to help small to medium-sized business and office departments better manage print security.

The software uses Canon’s embedded MEAP (Multifunction Embedded Application Platform) technology to provide small businesses and workgroups control over user access to Canon multifunction print devices. Nothing is printed until a user identifies themselves at the device, ensuring that important information is not left sitting on the output tray. And for convenience, multiple login methods are available.

Being ‘serverless’, the software requires no additional IT hardware to operate; everything is installed on the Canon device, with a small add-on to the driver on each client PC. uniFLOW SSP also includes ‘Follow Me’ printing, which enables users to print on any device in their fleet, regardless of where they’ve sent a print job to.

Importantly, the new software, which is part of the uniFLOW Output Manager series, has an easy upgrade path for users seeking further functionality, such as usage reporting and intuitive printing rules/routing.

“Demand for tools that enhance office document security is growing rapidly,” said Luke Maddison, Product Manager Software at Canon Australia.

“A lot of that demand is in small businesses, which produce a significant amount of confidential or sensitive documents, such as research, proposals, contracts and financial reports. This solution, which is effective and affordable, is ideally suited to them.
