Syncsort Offers Data Recovery in Minutes

By Greg McNevin

October 15, 2007: Syncsort is promising end-to-end data protection and disaster recovery solution with the latest incarnation of its Backup Express.

The company claims the new version represents “unprecedented data protection, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities”, and is boasting data and application recovery within minutes when needed.

Syncsort says this is made possible thanks to its Backup Express near-CDP technology, which provides rapid recovery of data and applications with a selection of recovery points, including bare metal recovery and SQL, Exchange and Oracle application recovery.

Bare metal recovery includes the operating system, settings and applications software but without the need for special disaster recovery backups. The company says this allows an enterprise to be up and running with little or no down-time after a crash or data loss. This combined with near-instant read/write access to SQL, Exchange, and Oracle applications enables recovery from any chosen point.

The company also offers both disk-to-disk (D2D), and disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) solutions for archiving to tape, as well as automated failover to tape in the event of a recovery interruption.

“Data protection is about much more than backup - companies today need to know that they can recover from a failure right away and continue to do business,” said Dan Regan, Syncsort senior vice president. “Syncsort delivers a high-value end- to-end solution to ensure that they will be able to meet stringent SLA s (service level agreements).”
