Canon prints/scans to the cloud

Canon has launched a free Cloud Connect capability for its imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction devices (MFD).

Cloud Connect provides the ability to scan-to, print or store documents on Microsoft SharePoint Online or Google Docs from their multifunction device (MFD) without the need for a PC.

Stored data can be accessed remotely from a smartphone, tablet or laptop, and printed directly to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE device.

“Gartner has estimated that the global cloud market will be worth $150 billion in 2013 as organisations of all sizes are recognising how cloud computing can help streamline their processes or even deliver new and innovative services. Cloud Connect for iR ADVANCE is just the first step in Canon’s cloud offering,” said Luke Maddison, Senior Product Manager Business Solutions, Canon Australia.

“For the first time, Canon customers can scan and save to, and print directly from the market’s leading cloud services. Connecting to Google Docs and Microsoft SharePoint Online will help our customers extend their existing workflows and transform their processes with greater speed, collaboration and flexibility.”

Able to be downloaded from the Canon website, the functionality is provided through Canon’s JAVA-based development platform known as “MEAP” (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform).
