FalconStor Intros VTLs

FalconStor Intros VTLs

October 18, 2007: FalconStor has given its backup and archiving capabilities a boost with the addition of two new VTL appliances, both featuring integrated data de-duplication technology.

The company claims that its duo of Virtual Tape Library’s (VTL) provide a turnkey data protection solution. The first, the VTL Storage Appliance, was specifically designed for remote office, departmental and mid-market customers, while the second, the FalconStor VTL Virtual Appliance, is a pre-configured virtual machine image that FalconStor says delivers the first VTL solution for VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 environments.

The constant between the two is the inclusion of FalconStor VTL integration with Single Instance Repository (SIR) technology, providing enterprise-wide level data de-duplication, fast 1Gb iSCSI or 4Gb FC backup interfaces, and tape-format aware de-duplication.

According to IDC research director Robert Amatruda, there is an increasing demand for more efficient storage technologies such as de-duplication.

“With its new appliances, FalconStor is extending its VTL and de-duplication software to new markets, specifically the midrange and virtual environments,” said Amatruda. “Solutions like these drive adoption by lowering the barrier to entry for customers with easier implementation and lower costs.”
