NetApp Dual Launches Enterprise Storage

Month Date, 2007: Storage solutions provider, Network Appliance (NetApp) has today announced the release of the FAS2020 and FAS2050 enterprise storage platforms.

NetApp’s announcement of new storage systems for mid sized enterprise is deliberately targeting what it considers as the “fastest growing sector for storage” said Mark Heers, Director of Marketing & Alliances at NetApp. The claim is backed up by IDC forecasts which predict the market for external disk storage systems will grow to $6 Billion in 2011 at a growth rate twice that of the overall market.

According to Heers, the strength of the new FAS2020 and 2050 lies in NetApp’s decision to have a full feature suite enabled on their lower end as well as the higher end of products. This means organisations that would normally miss out on the full range of features offered by the more expensive line actually get the same treatment.

The majority of the new products will be pushed out through reseller channels, which NetApp has been trying to promote. It’s important to ensure your resellers grow with you” Heers said. NetApp is hoping this promotion will enable the resellers to keep up with NetApp’s own growth spurt. “

This release is a natural evolution for NetApp, Heers explained, with existing customers coming to expect linear upgradeability from the storage provider. This strategy along with focusing on the mid range of enterprise has positioned NetApp to take full advantage of a “very sweet spot in the market” said Heers.
