TWAIN Working Group releases 2.3 specification

The TWAIN Working Group, a not-for-profit organisation which provides the leading royalty-free image-capture API, has announced its release of the TWAIN Specification Version 2.3 and Data Source Manager Version 2.3.

The latest version of the specification expands print functionality, adds metadata value, adds a new section on best coding practices and offers additional self-certification test procedures. The 2.3 specification can be downloaded from the TWAIN web site at www.twain.org.

TWAIN 2.3 continues to build on previous versions of the specification that ensure operating system independence, an all-inclusive feature set and the ability to drive any scanner from personal to the highest volume production models.

Additionally, TWAIN has announced the addition of Germany scanner manufacturer InoTec to the TWAIN Board of Directors.

“We are pleased to have InoTec as our newest member” said Pamela Doyle, Chair of the TWAIN Working Group and Director at Fujitsu Computer Products of America. “InoTec brings over thirty years of experience and know-how in the production scanning space and we plan to tap this valuable knowledge to further the TWAIN standard.”

“Given the fact that InoTec drives their production scanners at speeds of up to 600 images per minutes using TWAIN drivers brings to an abrupt halt the claim of naysayers who say TWAIN is not production ready” said Doyle.

“Over the years TWAIN has remained true to our goals to constantly evolve the standard to meet the changing needs of the industry” said Doyle. “The 2.3 release further validates that commitment. We encourage other vendors to join our ranks who are willing to help evolve the standard to benefit the industry as a whole.”
