Norwegians Face a Nervous Wait

August 13, 2007: Up to 60,000 Norwegians might be feeling a little nervous about their identities after hackers stole sensitive data from a telecoms company,

The massive data exploitation amounts to 1.3 percent of the country’s population and contains information regarding change of address details, effectively allowing hackers to intercept mail and goods to alternate accounts.

According to the Aftenposten, a Norwegian news outlet, the hackers were able to access the 11 didgit, personal ID numbers of somewhere between 50,000 and 60,000 Norwegians.

The news comes from the Data Inspectorate of the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Government Administration, the Datatilsynet, after its Director Georg Apenes, claimed to be a victim of the identity fraud.

Tele2 had been previously warned of the weaknesses in its Website.
