NetApp to Double APAC Workforce

NetApp to Double APAC Workforce

By Greg McNevin

July 5, 2007: NetApp is reportedly planning to more than double its Asia Pacific workforce in order to hunt a 30 percent increase in global revenue growth.

According to Computerworld Malaysia, the firm currently employs 470 sales, engineering and tech support staff in the region, and by 2009 it intends to blow this number out to 900 in response to strong growth in Australia, China, India, Japan and Korea.

With the storage market booming it’s no surprise that NetApp is planning a rapid expansion in the increasingly import APAC region. In 2007 the company’s business in EMEA generated US$1 billion (AU$1.17 billion) and recorded growth of 35 percent.

“In the next two years, we will make significant investments in the region to grow our sales, support and field services infrastructure,” said Pat Linehan, the company’s senior vice president and general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to computerworld.

The story also notes that the deal follows closely behind EMC’s announcement that it will be spending S$250 million (AU$192 million) expanding operations in Singapore. Game on.
