Microvision to Develop Mobile Phone Projectors for Motorola

By Nathan Statz

July 25th, 2007: Using your mobile phone as a projector for displays, presentations and even movies is close to becoming a reality.

Microvision today announced it has signed on with Motorola to develop projector display solutions for mobile phone applications. Microvision’s ultra-miniature laser based display engine called PicoP is what is making this possible.

By Projecting content from your mobile phone onto a wall or similar surface, mobile users will be able to share websites or multimedia applications such as movies, photos and mobile television. “We believe our unique display technology, combined with Motorola’s focus on delivering cool experiences will allow enhanced information and entertainment viewing for mobile users” Alexander Tomkan, CEO of Microvision said today.

The exact terms of the agreement are yet to be disclosed, however it has been revealed that the companies will work together initially to integrate Microvision’s latest PicoP projector into a Motorola phone as a prototype. Whilst this means that having your own projector in your pocket is still a ways off, it is a much closer reality then any of us realised.
