Fruity Flash Drives

Fruity Flash Drives

By Nathan Statz

July 27, 2007: Ever wanted to have the scent of green apples drifting towards you while you’re accessing documents on your USB Flash drive?

If you answered yes then the latest announcement from Hong Kong based data management company, Microdia could be for you. The company has just launched “Fruit-A-Roma” USB flash drives, the first of their kind that you can actually smell. The drives come in four different fruity scents, orange, strawberry, grape and green apple.

The drives are fully functional, utilising Microdia’s Flash-Key chipset design. The units themselves come in up to 8 GB models, USB 2.0 enabled with read/write speed rating up to 480mb/s.

With the portable storage market being heavily saturated and ultra competitive, any move to differentiate the drives from the competition is a good thing. As far as performance goes, the drives are anticipated to perform as well as existing Microdia drives. Unfortunately no scented benchmarks were available at the time of this article.
