July 31st, 2007: Real-Time threat management company, Earthwave has achieved certification to the ‘Highly Protected’ classification level by the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD), Australia's national authority for information security.

With this certification, Earthwave can provide “the ability to offer Federal Government agencies important SIG access” said Earthwave Managing Director, Carlo Minassian. The DSD rating is the pinnacle of Australian Government classifications; the only ratings higher are ‘Top-Secret’ and ‘Classified’ which are used by in-house defence department agencies.

Provision of SIG services is not just aimed at highly classified government agencies, but private sector companies as well. The new DSD announcement isn’t necessary for private companies, but it does “make the SIG more appealing knowing it is secure” Minassian said. More then 60% of Earthwaves clients are private sector companies with highly sensitive information.

Earthwave’s Gateway is hosted out of a $75 million dollar, 7,000-square-metre site. The facility has an ASIO T4 rating, meaning that the physical premises is highly secured with security grills on all ducting, collision-prevention meshed walls as well as an extremely high end alarm and locking system. “Heavy investment went into physically protecting the site” Minassian said.

The gateway currently has upwards of 40,000 users accessing the service, a figure which is expected to rise. Earthwave has been in operation for over seven years and is the only 100% privately Australian owned carrier neutral real-time threat management company.
