Storage Software Market Still Growing Strong

June 12, 2007: IDC has released more details from its worldwide storage tracker for Q1 of this year, finding that the storage software market carried its 2006 momentum straight over into 2007, growing for the 14th consecutive quarter.

Storage software market revenues hit US$2.7 billion (AU$3.2B), a strong 11.4% increase over the same period last year.

EMC took the lion’s share of the overall market this quarter with 25.1 percent of total revenue, while Symantec notched up second place with a 17.7 percent share.

IBM claimed third place with 12.3 percent, while NetApp, CA and HP rounded out the top five with 12.3 percent, and a statistical tie of 4.4 percent respectively.

“Storage software continues to exhibit positive year-over-year performance, driven by growth in the archiving, replication and file system software markets and a surge in demand for storage management software,” said IDC Storage Software research manager Rhoda Phillips.

“Businesses continue to implement solutions that can improve availability, recovery and information access across heterogeneous environments.”

IDC says results are compiled taking data from markets such as data protection and recovery, archive and hierarchical storage management (HSM) (including email archiving), storage replication, storage management, storage device management, storage infrastructure, file system and other unnamed sources.
