NetApp Updates Data Centre Software

June 28, 2007: NetApp has taken another stab at reducing data management costs, introducing new software that it claims will help customers simplify management, reduce complexity and lower costs in data centres.

The company has announced new targeted offerings based on its ReplicatorX (formerly TDPS) enterprise-class replication software.

ReplicatorX has been developed with disaster recovery, data migration and cloning for test and development in mind, and promises to reduced acquisition and deployment costs while freeing customers from locking into a single vendor.

Next to ReplicatorX, Netapp has also enhanced its SnapDrive server storage management tool and data management software Virtual File Manager Enterprise Edition, and added SAP and SharePoint 2007 support.

“Today's announcement speaks to continued and expanded NetApp expertise in the data centre and in addressing both NetApp and heterogeneous data and storage management,” said Patrick Rogers, vice president, Solutions Marketing at NetApp.

Rogers added that in mixed-vendor storage environments the software offers customers increased flexibility and lower costs, while in a NetApp storage environment the new tools provide easier management and support for thin provisioning to reduce the need for physical server space.

All are included in the NetApp Manageability Software Family that NetApp customers leverage for increased productivity and flexibility by allowing the application administrators to manage their data and react quickly to changing business conditions.
