Information Management for Creative Types at PrintEx07

May 16, 2007: If PrintEx 2007 matches up to 2004 predecessor, around 16,000 creative types will descend upon the Sydney Exhibition Centre on the 24th and 25th May 2007 to view the wares of over 180 exhibitors

For those interested in information management for the creative industry, it will be an opportunity to view a live demonstration of a MetaCommunications recently introduced to Australia by Creative Types and Canto distributor, Databasics.

Ricky Patten, Databasics’ MD says, “Management information systems for production and creative has been around for a while, but mostly have been created in legacy environments. The Workgroups product is browser-based, totally open with a customization API and is based on Microsoft SQL Server. It’s really a 21st Century application.

“One of the outstanding things about the Workgroups product has been the amount of interest expressed by owners and managers, clearly demonstrating the need for better management internally by these companies, agencies and bureaus and we hope to be providing this to our customers with the Workgroups product.”

The starting price for Workgroups is $4,000. Once configurations have been completed, implementations come in at the $15-$20k range.

Patten says, “This price is far more competitive than other products in this classification.”

Mathew Green, MD of Creative Folks says, “From what we’ve seen, this is a very inexpensive way to be involved in management information systems. The two core modules I see are Virtual Ticket and Approval Manager.”

Virtual Ticket is an automated job ticketing system, designed to help ensure businesses cover the costs of work while Approvals offers a proofing and checking system for customers, which then feeds back into the system. It brings together components work in a centralised location, including project briefs, job tickets, customer information, associated document files, and more.
