Cisco to Buy BroadWare

May 25, 2007: Cisco has announced that it will be picking up the privately held BroadWare Technologies, a developer of IP-based video surveillance software.

BroadWare’s kit enables web-based monitoring, management, recording and storage of audio and video that can be accessed from anywhere. With the purchase, Cisco says it will be able to offer live and recorded surveillance video, increasing investigation response and event resolution.

Cisco says that as a platform, the IP network converges applications enabling companies to integrate and synchronise video with other safety and security systems as well as other business tools.

“Cisco views the video surveillance infrastructure market as an immediate high growth opportunity that requires the ability to support both IP and analog device installations,” says Marthin De Beer, Senior Vice President of Cisco's Emerging Market Technologies Group (EMTG).

“Through the acquisition of BroadWare, Cisco will be able address both existing and greenfield video surveillance opportunities.”
