HP Puts BI in the Line of Fire

April 26, 2007: HP has pulled the cloak off their next-generation data warehouse platform and leveraged their recent acquisition of Knightsbridge solutions to deploy a new branch of Business Intelligence services.

It’s news that comes following a series of strategic moves by HP to capture a market lead in business intelligence (BI) solutions and services. With a consolidation of resources occurring from the December 2006 acquisition of business intelligence provider Knightsbridge Solutions, HP has also worked to build on partnerships with existing vendors who solely deal with BI.

On the enterprise data warehousing front, HP has introduced the new HP Neoview platform incorporating software, hardware and services. Building on HP’s existing market position in BI server deployments, the Neoview is a 24x7 environment which HP says, seamlessly integrates business operations and decision making at multiple levels.

The Neoview platform operates as a business outcomes engine, offering customers information on business information such as customer trends, products sales and operational effectiveness. HP says the platform seamlessly integrate into current environments, thereby capitalising on existing IT investments.

Ben Barnes, VP for the Business Intelligence Group at HP Software, says the platform has been designed to spread BI capabilities and functionalities further across the enterprise. “Neoview provides customers with a more reliable, scalable and accessible choice for capitalising on information and enabling better business decision,” he says.

HP has also rolled out a set of BI services, primarily sourced from the Knightsbridge acquisition. Leveraging the work of BI practitioners with technical, business and industry expertise across a variety of market segments, HP says the practitioners’ will work to meet complex information challenges.

Overall, Hp looks ready to compete with the best of BI software vendors by building up strong relationships with specialist BI vendors. SAS has today announced its SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform will fully support the HP Neoview while Informatica has also reported its integration into the platform.
