KnowledgeTree Launches new Web Service

May 1, 2007: Open source software developer KnowledgeTree has launched a new web service that it hopes will provide third-party software developers new ways to extend and integrate its document management platform.

Called SOAP Web Services, the South African company says that the software facilitates the development of applications around its document repository, irrespective of the platform or language.

SOAP, or Simple Object Access Protocol, is based on XML and enables applications to share information across the Internet. With it, developers can create extensions to KnowledgeTree using languages such as PHP, C#.NET, Delphi, Java, Python, Ruby, C/C++.

To further assist developers, the company says client libraries are available in a number of different languages.

KnowledgeTree says the take-up of its platform is gaining momentum, with downloads eclipsing 300,000 to date. The company claims that its vision is to simplify document management and hopes to encourage further development via its web-based AJAX application.
