Service Stream Opts IN for Do Not Call List

February 2, 2007: Service Stream will build, operate and administer the National Do Not Call List after signing a contract with ACMA this week.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority says the Do Not Call Register will begin operating no later than May, with individuals able to opt in on having their telephone numbers barred from receiving certain unsolicited telephone calls.

Service stream was awarded the contract after public tender undertaken late 2006. As their first significant Government contract, the project looks set to open new markets for Service Stream. “This project is strategically important for Service Stream,” says Patrick Flannigan, managing director and CEO of Service Stream.

“The project will also attract significant profile, allowing us to more effectively tell our story, which is very compelling, to other prospective clients,” he says.

With the initial contract lasting a term of four years, Service Stream will work with the ACMA to combat increasing concern over unwarranted telemarketing calls on both business and consumer communities. The register is expected to be self-funded after its implementation with telemarketers required to pay a fee to access the list. After May, any telemarketing company making contact with a number on the black list will face heavy fines.

Service Stream recently merged with Total Communications Infrastructure, the organisations predominantly works in providing end-to-end services to the telecommunications industry.
