Elsevier Gets FAST

Elsevier Gets FAST

January 17, 2007: Information provider Elsevier, has deployed the FAST Enterprise Search Platform to assist users in accessing their online science information service

The FAST platform will work to improve the capabilities of ScienceDirect, an information resource of over eight million full-text scientific, technical and medical articles.

FAST says their technology will heighten the user experience of ScienceDirect to further assist researches with their work. Due to the enormous and vast amount of information available on ScienceDirect, the ability of researches to access accurate and reliable resources in a timely and efficient manner is critical to the product’s value.

As a publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, Elsevier offers a number of other online services such as Scopus, an abstract citation database of research literature and web sources that has been using the FAST technology for over two years now. Elsevier says by now applying the same technology to ScienceDirect, the two sites will be able to improve their interoperability and streamline the user experience.

“The implementation of the FAST search platform offers users an easy to use, yet customizable way of retrieving and ranking information,” says Amanda Spiteri, marketing director, ScienceDirect. “ScienceDirect and Scopus will be enhanced greatly by using the same search technology.”
