WD Releases 1TB ‘Black’ Drive

June 12, 2008: Western Digital has delivered its latest drive offering: a one-terabyte, 3.5-inch, 7200 RPM monster that it claims is the fastest on the market.

The company’s new Caviar Black SATA (Serial ATA) drives are being aimed at high-performance desktop, workstation and multi- drive systems and have been designed specifically for those who hunger for performance and capacity.

The Black drives feature twice the processing power, a 32 MB cache for greater performance, and other technology such as StableTrac to reduce system-induced vibration and NoTouch ramp load technology to ensure the recording head never touches the disk and ensure drive protection in transit.

The drives come in 750GB and 1TB flavours and according to Don Bennett, WD vice president and general manager of desktop storage, offer “the highest capacity and performance in a desktop class drive available on the market today.”
