Astute, Sun Offer ATCA Solution

June 17, 2008: Astute Networks has teamed up with Sun Microsystems to provide the industry’s first MySQL-based integrated ATCA server/storage solution.

Built for the ATCA market, the Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade is based on Sun’s MySQL Cluster database, and supported by Sun’s Netra CT900 ATCA bladed server chassis, and Netra CP3260 UltraSPARC T2 blade server in conjunction with Astute’s Caspian R1100.

The two are showing off the solution at the NXTcomm 2008 show in Las Vegas, and say that it provides the communication and media industries with a highly scalable, highly available COTS platform that increases processing capacity, helps reduce costs through consolidation, and provides a platform for future expansion.

“We realised the advantages of coming to market with an ATCA storage blade with the features robust enough to handle the demands of the next generation IP based network,” said Darrell Jordan-Smith, Vice President, Global Communications and Media Industry Practice, Sun Microsystems.

“After we learned of the Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade from Astute Networks, we quickly recognised the combination of the Sun Netra CT900, the Caspian R1100 and MySQL Cluster is the ideal solution to help OEMs and NEPs migrate from their proprietary implementations to a flexible, highly available, open systems platform.”
